South Carolina Pyrotechnic Licensing

I get a lot of questions on this so here's my take.

SC has a 1.4 license and a 1.3 license that you can get. Same test, believe it or not, but I believe the fee structure is different. So, you want to be a licensed SC shooter! Here we go!------ Always start at the beginning! Make friends with a professional display company ASAP! Go ahead and get your PGI certification out of the way, you're going to need it. Then the real fun begins! You will be required to fill out an EPQ (Employee Possession Questionnaire) and get 2 fingerprint cards from the ATF

Run on down to your local sheriff's office and get fingerprinted. EPQ and 1 fingerprint card will go to your new Professional Display Co friend. They will send those off to the ATF who in turn will turn them over to the FBI where every shred of your existence will be scrutinized. We are, after all, dealing with EXPLOSIVES! Have you been good or bad? Bad you say? Don't even waste your time! If you survive that anal probing, you will recieve your ATF LOC in the mail (Letter of Clearance) Frame it and hang it on the wall! I cherish mine more than my birth certificate! So, while all of this is going on, let's talk SC! Run on down to the post office, or CVS or anywhere that will take a passport photo for you. You must get it in PDF form. Pic in hand? We're off to a great start! Now, you will need to fill out and submit your SC trainee application, send you PDF photo with it , 1 fingerprint card and the $25 fee. Click on our files on this page to dowload the application.

Now while all of this going on, down load, print and glue to your forehead the NFPA 1123, this is your BIBLE! Read it, know it, LIVE it! file:///C:/Users/Hot%20Stuff/Downloads/1123-10%20(3).pdf Once you have that document memorized, time to move on to the ATF Orange Book! Are we having fun yet? file:///C:/Users/Hot%20Stuff/Downloads/ATF%20Orange%20Book%20(2).pdf Once everything comes back and you are panting heavily, thinking your done, WAIT! Now go and work with your new Professional Disply Co and get your 6 Pro shows under your belt! Once you have completed that, well, NOW you are eligble to go ahead and take your SC Operators License test! Sounds scary, it's not! It's just the process we have to through! So now what? You have survived all of this, you have your SC Display Operators License, you are cleared to shoot 1.3. Guess what, you can't buy 1.3! Now we go ahead and play with the ATF license! The Carolina Pyros holds a Type 50 ATF license. Manufacturer of expolsives. We are cleared to buy 1.3, buy explosive materials AND cleared to build our own shells! That thread is for another day!
