South Carolina, when is a permit and insurance required?
If you are shooting a 1.4 backyard 4th of July show for friends and family on your property, you are the single responsible person for the show. It's on your property, you are responsible for everything. No license, insurance or permit required. NOW, if you are shooting a 1.4 backyard 4th of July show on anyone else's property but yours, now there is more than 1 responsible person. GAME CHANGER! Now license, permit and insurance are required! EXAMPLE, here's what happens when I have a shoot on my farm. Backyard 1.4 4th of July show for my family and friends, nothing required as I'm the single responsible person. NOW, when we have a Carolina Pyros event here on my farm, Myself and the Carolina Pyros are responsible parties. License, insurance and permit are required! Let me know if that helped some? So, in this scenario, you have to ask yourself…
South Carolina Pyrotechnic Licensing
I get a lot of questions on this so here's my take.
SC has a 1.4 license and a 1.3 license that you can get. Same test, believe it or not, but I believe the fee structure is different. So, you want to be a licensed SC shooter! Here we go!------ Always start at the beginning! Make friends with a professional display company ASAP! Go ahead and get your PGI certification out of the way, you're going to need it. Then the real fun begins! You will be required to fill out an EPQ (Employee Possession Questionnaire) and get 2 fingerprint cards from the ATF

Run on down to your local sheriff's office and get fingerprinted. EPQ and 1 fingerprint card will go to your new Professional Display Co friend. They will send those off to the ATF who in turn will turn them over to the FB…
Mfg license and shooting
In order to get a mfg license, I’m assuming I’ll need the hours/shows working under an operator? My end goal is to be able to make stuff for small(ish) shows for friends and family shot on our property. In everyone’s experience, is it difficult to get permits for this type of show? I assume I’d need to talk the the Rockingham County Fire Marshall. Or town of Bethany. I know it’s a volunteer FD there. Does the mfg license cover operators abilities too? I’m down for gaining experience to accomplish this. If this seems like a reach, I want everyone to understand that I am a builder/maker. I love making things. Anything. Have been since I was little. And as soon as I figured out that fireworks were “make-able” I was/am hooked. I love it. I love the chemistry of it. I love the fact that most of the materi…
