An intro into how I wound up here. (sorry for the long post)
Hey guys. Thought I’d start with a post here. First and foremost, I really enjoyed meeting everyone I met in Troutman this last weekend. I had A great time!
I found out about the pyro world after doing some searches online foloowing this last years fourth of july festivities. I never know such a world existed! My fasocanation/obsession of fireworks dates back to as long as I can remember. I’ve been getting SC fireworks and shooting them for friends and family for a long time But never knew of this world of clubs, forums, retailers, etc. I’ve been active on the APC forum for a while and have received a good amount of help and discussion, however I’d like to get things going here, where we are all pretty local.
I’m focusing on making my own stuff for the moment and trying to get diverse in this realm. I started my pyro journey “studying” Ned Gorski‘s (and Gary’s) videos on YouTube. Ive ordered some stuff form Skylighter, Fireworks Cookbook, and Woody’s, slowly building up an inventory of raw ingredients and supplies. So far I’ve made some salute bottoms rockets, going through several iterations of BP made with commercial ingrediants, then experimenting with making charcoal out of different woods. I ultimately found a good, fast/hot BP from some willow charcoal suitable for lifting the rockets I’ve been making. I have some good videos of all of the different BP mixes and speeds that I’ll compile at some point. In learning all of this, I’ve made homemade charcoal, a decent ball mill, black match, star pumps, and some good rocket motors with salute headings. I have ingredients for some different stars and want to start experimenting with gerbs, and some arial shells. currently My ball mill motor has broken. I found an old dryer and was thinking of converting it into a ball mill cabinet. I might need some electrical help with that if anyone knows about that. I’m also wondering about a good lift BP for shells. Coated rice hulls? Or just purchase Goex. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to give yall a bit of history on me and my journey over the past 6 months. I’m excited to get to know you guys more and see where this leads. Im interested in helping with some shoots as long as the family schedule allows. I’m also pretty interested in the ability to purchase stuff through the club if possible although I’d have no idea where to start or how to do it. I have heard some of y’all talking about making an order. im not even sure what I’d be looking for. Maybe some arial shells to make into a cake? Or sole good fountains to use for effects? Idk. Just interested in the possibility. Last thing in Relation to purchasing stuff, is it possibly to purchase some quick match and time fuse from anyone? I know I can get time fuse from some of The other sites. I can also make quick match from the black match but in saving time I’d be interested in just buying some. one goal of mine is to make a small show for New Years. I have about 200 acres of family land in Rockingham County just north of Greensboro where is like to shoot stuff. Ok. Sorry for rambling. Thx.

Good advice. I have read about that. I’ve heard about guys grounding themselves and work area with wires. And knowing that my mill jar is made out of PVC is another cause for care in handling. I’ll invest in some static guard for when I get back to it. I have a wood shop I’m building right now that is taking up my “spare” time.
