New Carolina Pyros Member (RDU Area)

Hey everyone! I'm new here at Carolina Pyros. I'm an electrical engineer based in the Raleigh area, and excited to get more involved in the hobby.

A couple questions for the group:

  • What events do you all look forward to most throughout the year?

  • Is anyone planning to go to PGI or similar conventions this year?

  • Any tips on which forums/groups tend to be the most active for discussion?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

From my experience, the two annual events are great for learning the ins and outs of working on a pyro crew in a real envirionment. You can learn firing systems, set up, safety, etc.

I have been to PGI once, and it was awesome. I will go back. There were more opportunites to learn the manufacturing side on a basic level there. We made girondolas from pre-made rockets. We made black poweder rockets from scratch, assembled shells from pre-made components, and then got to launch them... It was a great experience. You may have a chance to work on a show there as well, but some of them are competitive and won't want outsiders or newbies working on their show... understandably so.

They will usually run a class for people looking to get certified once a year or maybe every other year here at the club, but always seem to have them at PGI.

2FA for fall event.

Folks - I am going to have my daughter pick-up a few pounds of 2FA for some "re-enactments" I am planning. If anyone else is in need of 2FA let me know!
